When a child is struggling emotionally or behaviourally, parents are often left feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, and unsure where to turn. My role is to help families make sense of what's happening and move forward with clarity and confidence.
I'm Dr Andrea Homer-Edwards, a Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in Child, Adolescent, and Adult Mental Health. For more than a decade, I have worked across both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services, supporting children, adolescents, adults, and families through a wide range of mental health challenges.
I earned my Doctor of Medicine in Psychiatry and Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the University of the West Indies, St Augustine, where I received the Dean's Award for the most outstanding student in my graduating year.
My clinical career has included over ten years of service within public mental health systems, working with diverse populations in both hospital and community settings. A significant portion of my work has focused on child and adolescent psychiatry, as well as consultation-liaison services supporting patients and families within medical and surgical units.
This experience has given me a deep understanding of how emotional and behavioural challenges can affect not only individuals, but entire families and support systems.
I believe that effective mental health care is collaborative, respectful, and holistic.
Children do not exist in isolation. Behaviour, emotions, family dynamics, school environments, and life stressors all play an important role. My work with parents focuses on understanding these factors together — without blame or judgement.
When supporting families, I aim to:
My goal is not to "fix" children, but to help families feel more informed, empowered, and supported.
Alongside my clinical work, I created Calm Kids to support parents who are navigating ADHD, behavioural challenges, emotional regulation difficulties, and the stresses of modern parenting.
Calm Kids bridges clinical expertise with everyday parenting realities. It offers guidance, tools, and reassurance for parents who want to respond thoughtfully to their child's needs — even when things feel overwhelming.
Parents can engage through:
If you're feeling unsure, worried, or simply want clarity about what you're seeing in your child, you're not alone — and you don't need to have all the answers before seeking support.
My aim is to walk alongside families, offering professional guidance that is grounded in evidence, compassion, and real-world understanding.
